Welcome to the Wireless Age

Petoskey’s historic downtown shopping district, which includes Victorian architecture and gaslights, has recently seen the addition of a cutting edge wireless “hot zone.” One can now surf the internet with a wireless laptop or PDA while lounging in the comfort of Pennsylvania Park. The hot zone, which spans the park, went live in August with a transmitter positioned inside the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce. The wireless hotspot was made possible by Norlight Telecommunications, which donated the initial equipment, United Telecom, which has donated and installed a dedicated DSL line, and i3 Business Solutions, which donated time and additional equipment to complete the installation. Other public hot spots in town include the Petoskey Public Library and the Petoskey Marina. Welcome to the wireless age, Petoskey visitors!
