The editors of Midwest Living 2007 have named Petoskey to their Best of the Midwest in the category of "Getaway Towns." According to the editors, their favorite "small town escapes include all the ingredients for perfect weekends: pretty settings, memorable lodgings and restaurants, plus plenty to see and do."

Petoskey is rightfully described as a "shoppers' and artists' mecca." Featured in the article are the sunsets at Bayfront Park, the Gaslight Shopping District, the Little Traverse History Museum, Bay View, Ward & Eis Gallery, Grandpa Shorters, Gaslight Gallery, Andante, City Park Grill, Jesperson's, and Stafford's Perry Hotel and Bay View Inn.
