Petoskey Favors New Football Stadium?

According to an article in today's Petoskey News Review, Petoskey School District voters are supportive of a new millage to develop and operate $15 million worth of new school sports facilities. This according to Lansing-based polling firm EPIC-MRA, which surveyed 300 district residents from Nov. 11-14, and found that a majority of those surveyed (57%) supported the idea.

School officials are apparently considering new football, track and soccer facilities at the south end of the Petoskey High School/Petoskey Middle School complex. The proposed new taxes would cost the owner of a $200,000 home roughly $79/year.

I found these survey results to be quite surprising, given the current weakness in our local economy. So I thought it would be interesting to conduct my own survey. (I have been looking for an excuse to have a survey for a while now). So here's your big chance! Please click on the link below to complete the survey.

How did the survey come out?...We are concerned with the access road to division that runs along the back of our property. The subdivision was never notified by the schools of their plans until we read the Petoskey News Review on January 19. Any laws to protect a persons right to privacy, the beautiful trees and nature they will destroy? This will help with my decision on how to vote.

Sorry, but the survey was a bust. I tried something called surveymonkey, and was very excited about the idea, but couldn't get it to work properly. I'm sure that more details regarding the project will become available as the election nears.

I have long been a proponant of an enclosed stadium with retractable roof for the Fighting Northman of Petoskey High. This facility would support upwards of 50,000 fans and would be multi-use, ie soccer. Petoskey should declare eminant domain and take possesion of the surrounding properties and build this facility. The resident's should be taxed to pay for this magnificent facility.

I went to the Gaylord Game and concur that a retractable roof would be ideal. It was much too windy to play outdoors, with the threat of rain and what not.

Does the Normal and Business College of Petoskey have a football team? They could have played in the new stadium as well.
